Here’s a little bit about the owners of Huckleberry Nursery:
Eric and Elaine Christen of Huckleberry Nursery both have horticulture in their blood.
Eric grew up veggie gardening and farming with his grandpa right here in Hayden. At the age of 18 he began working with the Forest Service Nursery in Coeur d’Alene, ID. During his 22 years with the Forest Service, he started his own nursery. This grew to surpass his Forest Service career. In 1994, Huckleberry Nursery moved to its present location, at Highway 95 and Lancaster in Hayden, changing slowly from a tree grower/wholesaler to the full service garden center it is today.
Elaine grew up in Southern California where she learned about gardening from her Mom, Grandmothers and neighbors. This hobby became a career when she graduated from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo with a degree in Ornamental Horticulture. After moving to North Idaho, Elaine began working at Huckleberry Nursery in 1996, and in 2005 became Mrs. Christen. Through the years, she has striven to expand the product line to include more unusual, interesting plants while still adhering to the nursery’s policy of carrying only zone-hardy varieties. Elaine enjoys helping customers design landscapes to fit their lifestyle.
Both Eric and Elaine have spoken professionally about landscape architecture and gardening and have been asked to consult on a multitude of complicated landscaping projects.
The Christens love to share their enthusiasm for all things green and are happy to help newbies and seasoned garderners alike. Should you be interested in their expertise, simply fill out the appropriate form in the “CONTACT“ page.
